Our Purpose
Bobcats for Suicide Prevention campaign aims to raise awareness about the threats of suicide to Ohio University students and the general population and to promote healthy living among students. This organization does not perpetuate or attempt to give medical advice or provide counseling services, but rather promote professional help available on campus and through professional organizations. Additionally, BSPC strives to increase understanding of the causes and effects of suicide in order to lead to more effective prevention and sensitivity to this important issue on Ohio University’s campus.
How we accomplish our purpose
Each semester we arrange a number of events to try to draw attention to the cause, as well as spread awareness of mental illnesses and the threat of suicide to students. Our events range from vigils for those who lost their lives to suicide, to events to help students take a break from some of the stress at finals time, to our biggest annual event, Awaken, which both mourns those who have lost their lives to suicide, and celebrates the lives of those still living. You can read more about our events here. In addition to our large events, we also raise awareness with a number of smaller endeavors. These methods include things such as tabling in Baker Center giving out resources for mental illness at Ohio University, to arranging talks from people with knowledge about mental illnesses.
